Dangers of practicing Bikram Yoga

Nov 09,2022 | IUGA-Stephen

Some yogis may be very familiar with Bikram yoga, which is the yoga that most yogis practice regularly. They believe that this type of yoga is very beneficial for maintaining health and fitness. If done correctly, this statement is very valid. This type of yoga consists of several poses divided into several sessions, namely warm-up, relaxation, and movement sessions.

People who are used to doing this type of Bikram yoga exercise sweat a lot due to the increased calorie-burning process in the body. Because many calories are burned in the body, this type of yoga is very helpful in losing weight. Due to this reason, many people, both men, and women, especially women who are not confident about their overly fat body shape, would desire to take this Bikram yoga class.

However, it has been proven that this type of yoga will not always bring benefits to the body. If not done correctly, it can have quite fatal effects, especially for people with a history of certain diseases. Here is a piece of information that mentions some people who are not allowed to do Bikram yoga poses.

Diabetic patients are not allowed to participate in this Bikram Yoga class because the high room temperature can affect the performance of the heart in the body. We all know that people with diabetes are at risk of developing complications, especially heart disease complications. If they still do so, then the consequences will be very fatal. Then pregnant women are also not recommended to practice these types of yoga poses. There are some Bikram yoga poses that are considered too heavy for pregnant women.

These exercises are quite dangerous for the fetus that the mother is conceiving. High room temperatures are also not good for the mother and the fetus. The Bikram yoga room is very similar to the atmosphere of a sauna. The same applies to people with heart disease. The high temperature in the yoga room increases the performance of the heart. As a result, the heart rate will increase and breathing will feel heavier. Therefore, asthmatics are strongly advised not to practice this unique form of yoga.
